Pulis angry with defending
21 Dec 2008 - 11:01:04
Stoke City boss Tony Pulis claimed Christmas came early for Blackburn Rovers after his side's generous defending in their 3-0 defeat at Ewood Park.
Rovers, under new boss Sam Allardyce for the first time, were looking for their first win in 12 games but found themselves three goals up inside the opening 27 minutes.
"Christmas has come early for Sam," fumed Pulis. "I think they got in our box three times and scored three goals and every goal was defendable.
"After that it was game over. We are desperately disappointed. You can't legislate for individual mistakes.
"We need people that are going to stand up and we need concentration levels far better than what we showed."
Meanwhile, Pulis admitted he will be looking to strengthen his squad in the January transfer window.
The Potters boss lost first-choice goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen to a finger problem in the warm-up, while key striker Mamady Sidibe missed the game with a knee problem.
"We will be looking to do some business in January because we need to improve in certain areas," he added.
"Losing Mama is a huge blow for us, but we will look to address that in the transfer window.
"For the time being though we have to get on with what we have."
