    Potters splash out on Cort

    14 Jan 2008 - 13:21:30

Stoke City have broken their transfer record by splashing out £1.2million on Crystal Palace defender Leon Cort.

Cort, 28, who has been on loan at the Britannia Stadium since November, has signed a three-and-a-half year deal, for a fee which could rise another £200,000 if the Potters are promoted to the Premier League.

The former Hull City star has scored four goals in 15 appearances since his loan from the Eagles, where he was named their player of the year last season.

Stoke chief executive Tony Scholes told the club's official website: "This club record signing shows the club's determination to build a team strong enough to challenge for promotion."

Manager Tony Pulis added: "Since he's come in he has been a smashing lad on and off the pitch who's a real danger at set pieces."
