Potters spirit delights Pulis
13 Dec 2009 - 11:34:39
Tony Pulis hailed the 'spirit and commitment' of his Stoke City players after they ended a turbulent week with a 2-2 draw against Wigan Athletic.
Goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen saved a late Hugo Rodellega penalty to earn the Potters a share of the spoils at the end of a week where the focus had been very much off the pitch.
Pulis and striker James Beattie were reported to have come to blows in the dressing room following last weekend's defeat at Arsenal.
But speaking after Saturday's draw, Pulis was swift to point out that team spirit at the Britannia Stadium had not been dented by their week in the media spotlight.
"Nobody can ever doubt the spirit and commitment of the players at this football club and they showed that once again today," he said.
"I thought it was set up nicely for us to go on and win the game in the second half, but then we got caught by a wonder-strike out of the blue.
"It got a bit hairy in the closing stages, so we're happy to come away with a point even though I thought we were by far the better team.
"The penalty was a poor decision because it was offside and the linesman had a clear view of that.
"Two wrongs don't make a right, but thank goodness for the fact that Thomas Sorensen came off his line to save the spot-kick."
