Stoke City beat the transfer deadline by a couple of hours to land Aston Villa midfielder Patrik Berger on loan until the New Year.
The 33-year-old Czech Republic international will join Villa team-mate Lee Hendrie at the Britannia Stadium.
Berger has been with Villa since the summer of 2005, but has suffered injury problems and has made only two first-team appearances this season.
He had previously enjoyed spells with Portsmouth and Liverpool, having joined the Reds from Borussia Dortmund after impressing in England at Euro 96.
Berger has made just 11 appearances for Villa in total and will be hoping to gain much-needed match practice with the Potters.
