Stoke City manager Tony Pulis had confirmed that he is keeping tabs on former Potters loanee Jon Parkin.
The 25-year-old striker netted three goals in six outings for Pulis' side at the end of last season and seems set to be allowed to leave Hull City this summer.
Pulis told The Sentinel: "We like Jon a lot and we think he did a smashing job in the short time that he was here. I would love to have him again for next season.
"But as we all know it's not as simple as that to bring the player back. A lot of work has to be done before that happens.
"We are just looking at all options at the moment. A lot of players are out there and available, but it is a case of sifting through the list and pursuing the targets we identify.
"It's about making sure we get players who will improve us as a football club. We don't want to make mistakes by rushing into signings."
