Potters expect fee for Beattie
21 May 2010 - 12:31:55
Stoke City will not let unsettled striker James Beattie leave the Britannia Stadium on the cheap.
Beattie, 32, was a peripheral figure during the second half of the recently completed season following reports of a dressing-room bust-up with manager Tony Pulis.
But despite expectations that he will move on when the summer transfer window reopens, Potters chairman Peter Coates has revealed that the club is expecting to receive a fee for the experienced striker.
"There is absolutely no chance of that happening," Coates told The Sentinel when asked if a player they paid £2million for 18 months ago could leave on a free transfer.
"We value him as a player and, if he were to leave, we would expect a sizeable fee.
"Clubs are bound to be interested because he is a goalscorer and they are hard to find.
"Everyone is looking for them. It is the most difficult job in any football club to fill."
