Potters Complete Second Swoop

City bring in second summer signing Stoke have completed their second signing of this summer transfer window, signing former West Ham United defender Matthew Upson on a free transfer. Upson, 32, started his career at Luton before moves to Arsenal, Birmingham and then a £7.5m move to West Ham. The defender also had a loan spell at Reading during his time with the Gunners. The centre back has also been a regular in England squads over the years and represented the Three Lions at the 2010 World Cup, where he scored twice including the solitary England goal in the 4-1 defeat to Germany. Experienced Upson, who has over 200 Premier League games under his belt, was released by West Ham at the end of last season following their relegation to the Championship and the defender, who has had a career dogged by injuries, will now fight it out with Ryan Shawcross, Robert Huth and Jonathan Woodgate for a place at the heart of the Potters defence.
