Potters chief hints at departures

14 May 2010 - 12:35:34

Chairman Peter Coates has admitted that Stoke City need to reduce the size of their squad before manager Tony Pulis can buy during the summer transfer window.

To meet new Premier League requirements, the Potters need to reduce the number of players aged over 21 in their first-team squad.

Coates believes the reduction in squad size will then permit Pulis to draft in new players as the club looks to build on an 11th-placed finish this season.

Strikers Dave Kitson and James Beattie are believed to be two players close to the exit door at the Britannia Stadium following reports of spats with Pulis.

"We've got to reduce the squad size because of the new rule," Coates told The Sentinel. "At the moment we've got more players than we're able to have, so there will have to be some thinning out.

"We, like all football clubs, will be looking to generate money to finance changes."
