Livid Sorensen slams Hutton
21 Oct 2008 - 09:41:18
Thomas Sorensen has blasted Tottenham defender Alan Hutton after the Scotland international's challenge left the Stoke City goalkeeper needing 12 stitches.
Sorensen clams Hutton led with his studs as he clashed with the shot-stopper for the ball in the Britannia Stadium encounter that the Potters eventually won 2-1.
He told a Danish newspaper: "I have been sewn up in the eye socket. It is miraculous there's no more damage.
"We are at a stage where it is not funny any more. He could have avoided hitting me. He had no chance to reach the ball, but he still threw himself into it, leading with his studs.
"The doctor has done a very good job so my face is not totally destroyed. But it was a millimetre off me losing my sight, so I am relieved. I can just look up to the heavens and say 'thank you'."
However, Potters boss Tony Pulis remains confident Sorensen will have recovered in time to play against Manchester City on Sunday.
He said: "He's had around a dozen stitches in the wounds, but the fortunate thing is that the worst damage is below the eye, not above it.
"That increases his chances of being OK at the weekend, but obviously it's something we will monitor throughout the week."
