Lawrence aims for City recall

Stoke City midfielder Liam Lawrence is determined to fight his way back into the Potters starting line-up after recovering from an ankle problem.

The 27-year-old Irishman has not started a game since late September, having suffered his injury when slipping as he stepped over his pet dog.

Lawrence had been linked with a possible loan exit from the Britannia Stadium, but insists that he is going nowhere just yet.

He said: "It's very frustrating because I want to give something to the team and help Stoke stay in the Premier League.

"I'm desperate to get back into the side and the manager knows that. He's told me to keep my feet on the ground, stick with him and take my chance when it comes.

"I've accepted that, but I love playing and I won't be happy until I'm starting games.

"I've been champing at the bit for weeks. I feel fit and raring to go and I'm no good to anybody while I'm sitting on the bench.
