Kitson aims to shine for City
22 Jul 2008 - 16:32:33
Stoke City new boy Dave Kitson is hoping to prove that he has the all-round game needed to impress in the Premier League next season.
The 28-year-old has joined City for a club record fee of £5.5million from Reading, having shown up well for the Royals during their two seasons in the top-flight.
Kitson told The Sentinel: "My problem is that people look at how tall I am and immediately think I'm a target-man. That's how I started at Cambridge, but that's only because it was the way they played then.
"But there have been goals where I've dribbled through people, volleyed them in, helped start things on the halfway line and what have you.
"When you come to a new club you want the respect of the other players and that comes from games.
"I've played with players with unbelievable ball skills in training who look the best in the world, but on a big pitch it doesn't quite happen.
"If you do the business in the games, your team-mates warm to you and make it easier for you to fit in.
"But I think it would be nice if the other players see I'm a player to be relied upon by holding the ball up, making a pass and mucking in for the team."
