James' Potters move in doubt
27 Jan 2010 - 10:26:30
Stoke City face a potentially crucial delay to their bid to sign England international goalkeeper David James on loan from Portsmouth.
The 39-year-old is reported to have suffered a calf injury during training with Pompey and his switch to the Britannia Stadium could now be delayed beyond the end of January.
Portsmouth's chief executive Peter Storrie confirmed: "It's not a serious one. I think it's only one or two weeks out.
"It possibly might delay the deal with Stoke, or it might just change the premise of the deal. It depends how long he is going to be injured."
City boss Tony Pulis has already admitted that the deal for James has taken much longer than he would have liked, with a disagreement over the payment of the player's wages having initially been a problem.
James has been at Fratton Park since the summer of 2006, having previously enjoyed spells with Manchester City, West Ham United, Aston Villa, Liverpool and Watford.
