Higginbotham targeting cup start
Published : 25 Oct 2010 14:45:00
Stoke defender Danny Higginbotham is desperate to earn a start in the Carling Cup clash with West Ham. The 31-year-old has struggled to break into the Potters side this season with boss Tony Pulis preferring Danny Collins in the left-back position. Higginbotham's only Premier League start came in the opening-day defeat at Wolves and he had to wait until Sunday's home defeat by Manchester United to get his next taste of league action, coming on as a second-half substitute for the injured Collins. He has started all three of Stoke's Carling Cup ties, however, and hopes Pulis follows the same policy for the Upton Park clash on Wednesday. "Obviously I am desperate to play," he told the club's official website. "The cup competition is one where the manager has given a few of the lads who haven't been playing regularly a chance this season. "(Collins' injury) gave me a little chance to come back in there and try to stake a claim, which was good for me. "Hopefully if I get the chance to play in the week then I can impress the manager and give him a bit of a headache for the weekend."
