Griffin joins up with Reading
12 Jan 2010 - 10:58:26
Reading have added some experience to their squad by snapping up the Stoke City right-back Andy Griffin on loan until the end of the season.
The 30-year-old has a wealth of experience having featured in almost 250 league matches for his four clubs in a 13-year professional career.
Griffin, who has also played for Newcastle United, Portsmouth and Derby County, moved to the Britannia Stadium for £300,000 two years ago.
Royals manager Brian McDermott said of Griffin's arrival: "He's an experienced player at the top level. He was skipper at Stoke and got promotion there, so he's got great pedigree.
"I feel we need a right-back and he can play that role so I'm sure he's going to be a good signing for us.
"He's hungry and he wants to be play. He hasn't played for a while, he needs to kick-start his career because he wants to play for another five or six years I'm sure. Hopefully we can help him do that."
