Griffin extends Potters stay
20 Jan 2007 - 11:44:40
Stoke City have extended Andy Griffin's loan spell at the Britannia Stadium until the end of the season, and the Portsmouth defender could seal a permanent switch to the Potters in the summer.
The 27-year-old former Newcastle United star has scored twice in 17 appearances for Tony Pulis' play-off chasing side this term.
Meanwhile, Dominic Matteo is looking forward to starting a new chapter in his career at Stoke.
The 32-year-old, who moved to City on a free transfer from Blackburn Rovers on Friday, said: "I haven't played much football for the last 12 months, but I'm here now and I want to change that.
"I'm not saying I'm going to come here and go straight into the team but hopefully I'll show every body what I can do. The club are in a good position, they've been doing well recently and hopefully I can be part of a good time.
"My fitness is fine. I haven't played any first-team matches but I've played in a lot of reserve games. I'm ready if the manager calls on me but it'll maybe take a week or two to get match-fit."
