Delap eyes Stoke move
13 Oct 2006 - 14:08:48
Loan midfielder Rory Delap is targeting a permanent deal with Stoke City after confirming that his future at Sunderland is virtually non-existent.
The 30-year-old former Derby and Southampton man joined the Potters on a three-month deal earlier in the week and, after Roy Keane revealed he is unlikely to feature much in his Sunderland team and Stoke chief Tony Pulis promised to play him in his favoured position, a full-time switch is now his aim.
He told the club's official website: "I'm here now, hopefully for good.
"There are a few things to sort out to enable that to happen but that was one of the things I wanted when I came here.
"I've been playing at right-back a lot and although I can play there, I don't enjoy it, but the gaffer said he wants me to play in midfield and I feel I can do well there.
"When Roy Keane arrived at Sunderland I played the first game but was then dropped out of the squad, and although I didn't really read too much into it, he said later I wasn't really part of his plans."
