    City splash out for Olofinjana

    26 Jul 2008 - 12:44:52

Stoke City have paid out £3million to sign Wolves' Nigeria international midfielder Seyi Olofinjana on a four-year contract.

The deal for the 28-year-old represents the second biggest in City's history, with the Pottters having paid Reading £5.5million for striker Dave Kitson earlier this summer.

Olofinjana joined Wolves in the summer of 2004 and went on to score 18 goals in 147 appearances for the Molineux club.

Potters manager, Tony Pulis, told his club's official website: "Seyi is a great acquisition for this football club and I am delighted he chose to join us ahead of several other top-flight clubs.

"He is a player we think will enhance the squad and again it shows our ambition to be competitive in the Premier League."

Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey added: "We have been in negotiations with Stoke for the past week and I'm delighted that the deal has reached a satisfactory conclusion.

"Seyi is a model professional who has served us well. When he signed his new contract last October, it was acknowledged that if we failed to gain promotion we wouldn't stand in his way if he wanted to leave.

"Whilst we are disappointed to lose him, it's a good move for Stoke and the player and we have got a very good deal."
