City sign up second Faye

Stoke City have made a major signing on the eve of the new Premier League season, bringing in defender Abdoulaye Faye for £2.25million from Newcastle United.

The 30-year-old Senegal international has signed a three-year contract with the top-flight newcomers, having spent just one season with the Magpies.

Faye made 24 appearances for the Tynesiders following his £2million move from Bolton Wanderers, where he had spent two seasons after arriving in England from French club Racing Club Lens.

City chief executive Tony Scholes told the club's official website: "Abdoulaye is a fantastic player with top-flight experience in abundance.

"We have worked extremely hard to conclude the deal and we are absolutely delighted to have signed a player of his quality."
