City of Culture decision defended

A decision not to put Stoke-on-Trent in the race to be the UK's City of Culture does not mean the council is embarrassed by the area, it said.Stoke-on-Trent will not bid to become the City of Culture in 2013 after earlier looking at the idea. Twenty-nine locations are in the running. The city council said it always considered it would be good idea in 2017 rather than 2013.
