Begovic reveals transfer relief

Goalkeeper Asmir Begovic has admitted his relief at leaving Portsmouth's troubled season behind after signing for Stoke City.

The Bosnia international joined the Potters on deadline day for £3.25million and is happy to have left the troubles at Fratton Park behind him.

Begovic and the rest of the Pompey squad have regularly not been paid on time, while the Premier League's bottom club has now been taken over for the third time this season.

"In a few ways it was (a relief) because with all the problems going on behind the scenes, it does affect the players," he admitted.

"So it is a relief to come to a more stable position, for sure.

"We had no idea. We had people coming in from the PFA (Professional Footballers' Association) to try and get answers but we weren't getting any.

"They (Portsmouth) were giving us different excuses as to why money wasn't going in. They would say it was going in one day and then it wasn't going in that day. We really didn't know."
