Begovic may join Potters

Stoke City have launched an audacious bid to sign Portsmouth goalkeeper Asmir Begovic who had been linked with a transfer to Tottenham.

The Bosnia international could move to the Britannia Stadium in a £2million deal after Tony Pulis turned his attention to the 22-year-old after a move for the shot-stopper's Pompey team-mate David James stalled.

Twenty-two-year old Begovic has made 17 appearances for Pompey with 11 of those coming in the last three months when he has covered for the injured James.

Younes Kaboul is on the verge of leaving Fratton Park to move to White Hart Lane for £10million while Begovic is thought to be available for £3million.

Chief executive Peter Storrie and manager Avram Grant now look set to stay at the club despite threatening to quit earlier in the week after they were not consulted about Kaboul's sale.
