Arismendi heads to Stoke
01 Sep 2009 - 07:43:18
Stoke City have completed the signing of Uruguay midfielder Diego Arismendi.
The 21-year-old has joined the Potters from Club Nacional for an initial fee of £2.6million.
Arismendi has won two caps for Uruguay and follows former Middlesbrough duo Robert Huth and Sanli Tuncay into the Britannia Stadium
"It's a dream come true to play in the Premier League," Arismendi told the club's official website.
"In my opinion it is the best league in the world and having watched it on television for many years, I had long held the ambition of coming to play here one day.
"I was impressed with the welcome that I received from the club and I also like the ambitious plans that the manager has in the long term."
Chief executive Tony Scholes added: "This is the first time that the club have signed a player directly from South America.
"Clearly Diego will need time to settle but we are excited by his potential and are confident he will prove to be a great acquisition."
