Strikers consistency sees him home in battle for trophy The Potters have had a memorable season and every game has seen this site poll who you thought was Man of the Match. The results were feed into a table using the F1 points system, where the Man of the Match winner receives 25 points, 2nd place gets 18, 3rd=15, 4th=12, 5th=10, 6th=8, 7th=6, 8th=4, 9th=2 and 10th=1, as long as they received a vote in the poll. All cup games were included aswell and eventually the Boothen Roar Player of the Season would be crowned. 2009/10 saw Matthew Etherington stroll to the title and he started defending it well. Ryan Shawcross took the early lead after winning the opening MOTM poll before Walters took top spot following successive MOTM awards in the 2nd and 3rd games of the season. Matthew Etherington's first MOTM followed to take him to the top of the standings and he held that position until April. Although the left winger only got 2 MOTM awards throughout the season he was almost constantly in the top 3 or 4 and picked up points every game he played. Walters wasn't as yet a real fans favourite, with the terraces calling for Tuncay and Gudjohnsen to come in for the ex-Ipswich man, but his all action displays meant he continued to pick up enough points to stay in touch. After the New Year, and the departures of Tuncay and Gudjohnsen, the reputation of Walters improved and he started to pick up more points in the polls. Another player on the up was Jermaine Pennant as the winger went on a run of 14 out of 15 polls in the top 5, including 6 MOTM's, to end the season with a late charge. The hamstring tear picked up by Etherington gave Walters, just 34 points ahead at the time, the chance to wrap up the trophy and he duly stepped up and successive 2nd placed finishes saw the £3m August signing seal the win with two games to spare.
