Stoke City v Manchester UtdKick-off: Friday, 12.45pmTV: Sky Sports 1[LNB]Rooney's match-winning goal in the final against Liga de Quito in Japan last Sunday was followed by his selection as the player of the tournament, despite being deployed out of position by Ferguson on the left flank.[LNB]The debate about the 23-year-old's best position continues, with the player preferring a central attacking role, but United manager Ferguson said: "Success is always good for you, especially on a high level when you win man of the match and score the goal. Wayne's positional play when I played him over towards the left, was fantastic.[LNB]"He wasn't just a threat. He defended well and did everything over on that side of the pitch. He was a real handful and Quito just couldn't contain him.[LNB]"It was educational for him to play a position where he made such an impact and for us, it was an insight into maybe where we could play him in the future, but his main thrust was without doubt through the middle."[LNB]Ferguson, who admitted that United are no closer to finalising a permanent contract for Carlos Tevez, is without full-back Patrice Evra for today's clash due to a four-match ban imposed by the Football Association.[LNB]Meanwhile, United have been given until Jan 14 to submit an appeal to Fifa regarding the Champions League suspension looming over Nemanja Vidic as a result of his red card against Quito.[LNB][LNB]
