Shawcross relishing fortress Britannia return

Stoke captain Ryan Shawcross is looking forward to some home comforts after he and the squad became caught up in the traffic chaos caused by the heavy snow currently affecting the country. The Potters' match against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium was postponed three hours before kick-off, meaning the team's coach had to negotiate the treacherous road conditions to get home. It took them 10 hours to get back to the Britannia Stadium, having got stuck on the M1 for a long period which resulted in the players having to help to get the coach moving again. Stoke head to Blackburn on Boxing Day but after that they have four home matches in five fixtures and Shawcross is grateful they will not have to endure such travel difficulties again. "We certainly don't want another day like that, it was an horrendous journey," he told stokecityfc.co.uk. "Spirits remained high on the bus and I suppose in many respects it was a relief we made it home. "With so many cars and lorries getting stuck we were fortunate we didn't end up that way."
