Season Review 2010/11: Stafford Rangers

A look at how the 'Boro got on this season                                    It was a bad season for Stafford as they were relegated from the BlueSQ North into the Evo Stick Premier Division, and face massive changes in the summer due to more financial problems. Rangers started the season brightly and had two wins and two draws from their opening five games before the rot set in. Defeats in their first round in both the FA Cup and FA Trophy would dent the clubs bank balance and lead to greater problems as players would be released as the season wore on to keep the club afloat. Indeed after those opening five games 'Boro would win just one of the next fifteen before thrashing Market Drayton 4-1 in the Staffs Senior Cup in mid December. Tim Flowers had come in as manager but he couldn't turn the clubs fortunes around, one win in nine after the start of the year, taking the clubs run to a hugely worrying 2 victories in 24 games, but a change in fortune seemed to give the former England goalkeepers men hope as they did the double over Redditch, beat Hednesford and drew at Gainsbrough in a four game unbeaten run. That run was short lived though and a 5-0 home defeat against Hyde was followed by a 4-0 home reverse against Boston United just four days later. The clubs only hope of silverware, the Staffs Senior Cup, was ended when Kidsgrove Athletic comfortably saw them off 2-0. There was still the threat of relegation but Ranger didn't go down without a fight, defeating Corby in the penultimate game of the season to take their fight to the last day before defeat at Stalybridge confirmed their fate. Stafford finished just inside the relegation zone, four points off safety. League record: P40 W8 D8 L24 F39 A78 PTS32 (20th) Top scorers: 5-Ben Mills, Chris Sterling 4-Niall Maguire, Tyree Clarke, Luke Keen, Andre Francis FA Cup: Second Qualifing Round FA Trophy: 3rd qualifying round Staffs Senior Cup: Semi Finals
