Stoke boss Tony Pulis has backed his former assistant Peter Reid to be a big success at Plymouth Argyle.[LNB] Reid, who had been working as Pulis' assistant at the Britannia Stadium since last September, was appointed successor to Paul Mariner at Argyle yesterday.[LNB]Pulis was in charge of Plymouth himself for the 2005-06 season and has backed Reid to be a success there.[LNB]"Peter has been really keen to get back into management for some time and have a go again, and this is a great opportunity for him," Pulis told stokecityfc.com.[LNB]"We had an agreement with Peter that if a job came along he really fancied, we wouldn't stand in his way.[LNB]"When this one came up, he asked me about it and I told him it was a great club. I do think there is enormous potential at Plymouth.[LNB]"If clubs like Blackpool, Burnley and Hull can get into the Premier League, as they have done over the last few years, there is no reason why Plymouth can't do it if they get things going down there."[LNB]He added: "I think he has got something to prove, and not only to the people at Plymouth. It's very important to him that he does well at Plymouth and gets them going. I'm convinced he will do that.[LNB]"Peter asked me what it was like at Plymouth and I told him it was a good club to manage. I had a great time down there and I think the world of the football club and the people."[LNB]As far as Reid's replacement at Stoke is concerned, Pulis has hinted he may approach his former assistant Dave Kemp about returning to the role.[LNB]"It's obviously a situation I've got to look at now Peter has gone to Plymouth and there will have to be a few phone calls over the next day or two," Pulis told the Sentinel.[LNB]"It's clearly an important role at any club and a vitally important role for any manager.[LNB]"It's got to be someone you rate and someone you trust implicitly.[LNB]"There are a few people who fall into that category for me, including Dave, but we'll have to wait and see what happens."[LNB]
