Pulis blasts 'disrespectful' Begovic

Stoke manager Tony Pulis accused Asmir Begovic of being "disrespectful" after refusing to play in the Carling Cup tie against Shrewsbury.[LNB] Begovic was due to be given a run-out against the Shrews at the Britannia Stadium but the goalkeeper informed Pulis on the morning of the game that he did not wish to play.[LNB]Begovic has been the subject of interest from Chelsea and a number of other clubs have also been linked with a move for the Bosnian who has found himself playing second fiddle to Thomas Sorensen in the opening two games of this season.[LNB]Pulis said: "He said this morning he did not want to play.[LNB]"I find that very disappointing. We pay his wages and he has a responsibility to the club. We have a lot of supporters who idolise this club and love it.[LNB]"We have a management team and people around who have been here a long time. They respect the club and like it as much as the supporters do. To do what he has done is totally disrespectful.[LNB]"Obviously people have been blowing in his ear. That goes on. I will have a chat with him tomorrow."[LNB]Asked if Begovic's actions would push the player closer to the exit door, Pulis responded: "With our chairman (Peter Coates) it is less likely. I do not think Peter will be pushed around.[LNB]"We won't be giving him (Begovic) away and doing a deal because of what he has done. There has been interest from one or two clubs but nowhere near our valuation. We think he is a good goalkeeper and we want good players."[LNB]Stoke made the breakthrough in the 26th minute with Jon Walters' first goal for the club.[LNB]The former Ipswich forward, who arrived last week, was left frustrated on Saturday when he thought he had equalised against Tottenham in stoppage time only for referee Chris Foy to wave play on.[LNB]Eleven minutes later, Tuncay added a second, both goals coming from headers, while Steve Leslie replied for the League Two side.[LNB]Pulis said: "The first hour went well, then we got a little bit sloppy and took our foot off the pedal. It was a well-taken goal by Jon, just over the line!"[LNB]Shrewsbury manager Graham Turner was pleased with the way his side refused to lie down. "We were too cautious in the first half and afraid of what Premier League players might do.[LNB]"But we then pushed on and passed with more purpose. Overall the effort from my players was very pleasing."
