Higgy Reaches Century Mark In Potters Win
Defender joins 100 club Danny Higginbotham has become the latest member of the Potters squad to complete 100 games for the Potters, making his 100th start in last weekends win over Hull. The game was Higginbotham's 101st Potters game, after one appearance as a sub, but his 100th start and see's him become the eighth member of the current City squad to reach the milestone. The defender initially joined the Potters from Southampton for a fee of £325,000 in August 2006 and after an impressive season, in which he played 48 times, captained the side and netted seven goals from centre back, he moved on to Premier League new boys Sunderland, joining for £3m. He wasn't overly impressive at Sunderland, but far from the worst performer in an inconsistent defence and after 12 months on Wearside he rejoined the Potters, again for £3m, who had now also won promotion to the top flight. He played 30 times for City last season and has played a further 23 times this season, including one as sub, to bring up his century. He has also netted three times since his return to take him to ten Potters goals, making him joint fifth top scorer for Stoke in the current squad, level with James Beattie on 10 strikes. The other seven in the century club are Steve Simonsen, 187 games including 180 starts, Mama Sidibe, 180 including 160 starts, Ricardo Fuller, 149 including 116 starts, Andy Griffin, 137 including 126 starts, Liam Lawrence, 121 including 107 starts, Rory Delap, 119 including 116 starts, and Ryan Shawcross, 104 including 101 starts.
