3 years ago today: Stoke beat Notts County in latest friendly

A 2-0 victory at Meadow Lane continued Stoke's preparations for life in the Premier League. Tony Pulis put out a team that was not his strongest, but was too strong for their League Two opponents. There was no place in goal for trialist Thomas Sorensen despite earlier reports. Whether this means there has been movement on the Marton Fulop situation remains to be seen, but certainly Steve Simonsen was the only keeper in the sixteen. There were also notable absentees in Leon Cort, Liam Lawrence, Ricardo Fuller, Dom Matteo and Seyi Olofinjana who, along with Rudolph Austin, is still awating a work permit. The match was settled by two Mama Sidibe goals in the first half, one from a Glenn Whelan cross and the other from a Rory Delap throw. The result was comfortable enough against opponents who are a week further down their preparations for the new season.Despite this it is clear that there is strengthening to be done by the Potters in the next 18 days. There are clearly opportunities for a new goalkeeper, full-back, centre-half, left winger, midfielder if the Austin deal collapses, and possibly even another striker!
