Williams protests his innocence

Stockport County have lodged an appeal to the Football Association after Ashley Williams was sent off at MK Dons on Tuesday.

The defender was dismissed in the 68th minute for bringing down Izale McLeod but Williams insists it was an accidental collision.

"The referee said it was a professional foul," Williams told the club's official website. "But I don't think it was, because I haven't kicked him or tripped him.

"It was just a collision where he came across me and we collided. The referee said I was the last man but the ball ran straight through to James Spencer who was about to pick it up.

"McLeod had a few yards on me but I was catching him up. He just came across me and, because I was in full stride, I couldn't do anything about it.

"It's always bad getting sent off but this was even more frustrating because there was nothing I could do about it."
