    Thompson taken to hospital

    23 Jan 2009 - 16:57:52

Stockport County striker Peter Thompson required hospital treatment after he suffered a collapsed lung.

A chest infection kept Thompson out of action recently. However, the 24-year-old suffered breathing difficulties when he returned to light training and was taken to hospital.

Doctors have decided that the Northern Ireland international does not require surgery and he is expected to be sidelined for five to six weeks.

County physio Rodger Wylde told the Manchester Evening News: "Peter was given a course of antibiotics last Thursday and was then diagnosed by the club doctors before Saturday's game against Southend.

"He seemed to be improving and came in on Monday for a run. He only managed 20 minutes, though, before his chest started tightening.

"He tried again on Thursday, but there was no improvement.

"We asked the doctor to have another look at him and he diagnosed a spontaneous collapse of his lung."
