    Proudlock wins appeal

    08 Dec 2007 - 11:29:33

Stockport County forward Adam Proudlock has escaped a three-match ban after the referee who sent him off, Carl Boyeson, admitted he had made a mistake.

Proudlock had only just come on as a substitute in Tuesday's game against Lincoln City when Boyeson showed the striker a red card for hus lunge on Paul Green which was deemed as 'serious foul play'.

County's managing director Mark Maguire said: "As our fax was going over to the FA to appeal against the decision, I got a telephone call from the referees' coach at the PGMOL (Professional Game Match Official Limited) to say the referee had acknowledged that a mistake had been made and an apology would be forthcoming."

County did appeal the decision, believing that Proudlock was wrongfully dismissed and the FA have now upheld County's claim meaning the forward is free to take to the field against Wycombe.

Manager Jim Gannon added: "It's in vogue and hip to talk about two-footed challenges, so they're sending players off left, right and centre. It always happens when a new rule comes in."

Proudlock has made 20 appearances this season for the Hatters scoring five goals in the process.
