Stockport County have denied a press report that claimed teenage defender James Tunnicliffe has already joined
Liverpool.
The 16-year-old is due to link up with the Reds for a trial this week, but the News of the World jumped the gun by reporting that a £650,000 deal has already been completed.
County officials were quick to point out that, although there is a strong possibility of Tunnicliffe joining the European champions, he remains a Stockport player.
A statement on the club's official website revealed: "Although the two clubs have agreed a deal, the exact details will not be disclosed until, or if, James signs for Rafa Benitez's men.
"Stockport County can confirm, though, the figures and nature of the transfer as reported yesterday are incorrect."
