Hatters warned by Gannon

Stockport County boss Jim Gannon blasted his players after a dismal defensive display in the 4-2 defeat at Mansfield Town.

The Stags went into the game without a win this season, but tore the Hatters to shreds with four goals in the opening 32 minutes at Field Mill.

Gannon told the Manchester Evening News: "It was disappointing because I should have seen the writing on the wall. We gave away too many fouls and it cost us.

"It's something we've been instructing the players about for weeks and weeks and if players don't learn, they'll find themselves out of the team.

"We've talked about two things for the last couple of weeks: Having control when you're challenging, so you don't give away silly fouls, and not giving away possession cheaply.

"The lads are in for a hard week's work this week if they don't learn from instructing, then it's practice after practice.

"Maybe then, if they still haven't learned, you may be wasting your time and you just have to move on and get better players who do know how to take instruction."
