Hatters hope to keep Gannon
30 Apr 2009 - 13:37:03
Stockport County Supporters Trust chairman David Hoyle is hoping that Jim Gannon can be persuaded to stay on as manager.
Gannon came close to leaving the cash-strapped Hatters earlier in the season after holding talks with Brighton, while his name was also linked with the managerial vacancy at Oldham Athletic last week.
Gannon is believed to be unhappy at a lack of funds to strengthen his squad.
"Jim Gannon has publicly expressed his opinion on the situation," Hoyle told the club's official website.
"He knows that I don't always agree with some of his views. But he also knows I have the utmost respect for him and want him to stay at Edgeley Park and continue the excellent work he's done over the last three years."
Meanwhile, Hoyle confirmed that the club is seeking additional investment.
"As a board, we continue to believe in fans' participation in the ownership of the club through the Supporters Trust model, but it is unrealistic to expect fans on their own to provide the financial and other resources necessary to keep Stockport County progressing in the Football League," he added.
"To continue in this way would mean us having to drastically cut the playing budget and other costs.
"This is a significant matter, so in the interests of making sure we cover all options, we are talking very seriously to a number of people.
"The board are assessing their motives and seeing what they can bring to the club."
