Gannon upset over Elding

Stockport County boss Jim Gannon has voiced his frustration at having to allow top scorer Anthony Elding to leave the club in the January transfer window.

Elding had bagged 15 goals for the Hatters this season, but left to join Leeds United last month, much to Gannon's annoyance.

He told the Manchester Evening News: "When I first came into the club we were seven points adrift with the worst goal difference and we sold our top goalscorer.

"I thought we'd seen the last of those days. It's disappointing to sell our top goalscorer at this stage of the season when everybody else seems to be strengthening.

"The plan is to get into the Championship and that needs us to grow the squad by developing players. We need to attract and maintain the players we need to go on that journey.

"What you don't expect is for your top goalscorer to be sold when you're on the point of achieving what you set out to achieve two years ago."
