Gannon sets play-offs goal

Stockport County boss Jim Gannon has backed his side to go one better than last season and secure a play-off place in League Two.

The Hatters finished eighth last term, but currently lie sixth after a fine run of form in recent weeks.

Gannon told the Stockport Express: "Last year we had several players on loan return to their clubs and a lot of injuries and suspensions, which undermined the consistency of the team.

"This time it is important we are able to maintain our discipline and fitness, to ensure we are not as vulnerable as last year to changes."

Meanwhile, County forward Anthony Pilkington has put pen to paper on a new two-year deal at Edgeley Park.

The 19-year-old, who has scored 12 goals in 50 appearances, is now under contract until the summer of 2010.
