Gannon fury at County referee

Angry Stockport County manager Jim Gannon has slammed the decision to allow referee Dean Whitestone to officiate the Hatters' 2-1 defeat at Bristol Rovers on Tuesday night.

Whitestone angered Gannon when he controversially called off the original fixture between the sides last month just two-and-a-half hours before kick-off due to a waterlogged pitch at the Memorial Stadium.

And the County chief was less than impressed that the official was allowed to referee the revised fixture.

"I think it's an absolute disgrace when you make an official complaint about a referee and subsequently he's still the referee in charge of that game," Gannon told the club's official website.

"I'm very disappointed with the league that they've allowed him to referee the game and I think it's time the Football League had a good hard look at themselves because some of the things going on in the game are a disgrace.

"We were by far the better team. We were solid, we were professional and we were lively.

"I think they're a poor side and I don't think they're going to do much this season. But sometimes you don't always get what you deserve in games."
