Stockport County have decided to launch an appeal after Michael Raynes was controversially sent off in the Boxing Day clash with Shrewsbury Town.

Raynes was dismissed in the 29th minute for fouling Marc Tierney and Stockport went on to lose the match 3-1.

However, a brief statement on County's official website read: "After analysing video footage of the incident it is our opinion that Michael clears the ball before Marc Tierney's momentum forces a collision with the County defender, which contradicts the referee's report."

The Football Association is scheduled to assess the appeal on Friday.
