Stockport County have completed the signing of midfielder Leon McSweeney from Cork City.

The 24-year-old, who can also play as a striker, helped Cork lift the FAI Ford Cup last season. The Irishman has signed an 18-month deal with the Hatters.

McSweeney will be able to play for County when the transfer window opens at the beginning of January and will be eligible to play at Notts County four days later.

McSweeney started his playing career at Cork City before moving on to Leicester City.

The midfielder went on to have spells with several English non-league clubs including Scarborough, Hucknall Town and Hednesford before moving back to his hometown club.
