Stockport County manager Jim Gannon has vowed to stop coaching from the sidelines in a bid to improve his relationship with match officials and help his players.

The Hatters boss was sent to the stands in last month's game against Rotherham United after complaining to the referee about a quickly-taken free-kick.

Gannon told the Manchester Evening News: "No action is going to be taken against me after what happened against Rotherham.

"However, I think it might do me the world of good to sit in the stands taking stock and trusting the players that all the talk and all the work I've done in the week is going to bear fruit on Saturday.

"From the sidelines, I'm trying to coach and manage, and I'm doing too much of that.

"They've got to coach and manage themselves. They've got to point out their errors. They've got to protect each other. They've got to work and organise each other. If they do that they'll be a good side."
