Stockport County boss Gary Ablett has brought Hughie McAuley to the club after John Ward decided to leave Edgeley Park to take up the assistant manager role at Colchester United.
The 56-year-old spent more than two decades on Liverpool's coaching staff before being released by Rafa Benitez earlier this year.
Ablett told County's official website: "I've brought a little bit of help in this week in Hughie McAuley from Liverpool, who's worked with the reserve and youth teams there for more than 20 years.
"He has great experience of working with young players and he's helped to develop some of the best players that Liverpool have ever seen - the Gerrard's, the Carragher's, Fowler's, McManaman's, the list goes on and on of the players that have come through his hands.
"Hughie is great for me because I know him and I know how he works. He knows how I work and I can trust him.
"We'll monitor Hughie's situation and probably make a decision towards the end of next week."
