Ablett: Hatters just didnt compete

Published: 18 Oct 2009 - 16:22:58

The Hatters had produced what ought to have been a morale-boosting away victory at Tranmere during the week but, instead, found themselves 3-0 down to the Lions at the break and lucky it was not four after Owain Fon Williams saved Neil Harris' penalty. But the Millwall marksman did go on to claim his second hat-trick of the season after the break to leave Ablett with much to ponder. "We felt really positive going into the game after the win at Tranmere," he said. "We prepared for the game properly and worked on what we thought were Millwall's strengths, but in the end we were poor, there's no getting away from that. The quality of performance just wasn't there so we're all bitterly disappointed. "The second goal in particular was a disappointing one to concede. After that some of our players just looked shot - both physically and mentally. Too many of them looked frightened. We didn't pass the ball well at all. It got a bit better in the second half but it was by no means enough. "I feel we have enough quality in the squad to compete at this level, but compete is just what we didn't do. That situation just has to change."
