Ward: We can survive

Caretaker manager Peter Ward still believes Stockport can avoid relegation despite his side slipping to a 4-1 defeat at home to Macclesfield that plunges them deeper into trouble at the bottom of the table. County took the lead through James Wallace before Izak Reid replied for the visitors. The second half was all one-way traffic, though, as Town scored three goals through Tyrone Barnett, a Paul Turnbull own goal and a Hamza Bencherif strike to claim the points. Ward said: "I think we got off to a good start with a fantastic strike by Wallace, but once we conceded the equaliser we lost our confidence and they seemed to grow in confidence. "I made a couple of changes from the team that won last week and I thought it would help us. The squad looks stronger, the bench looks stronger, but it was on the pitch that we lost it. "Once we conceded the first goal we never recovered. We haven't reacted well to their goal and we didn't play very well at all in the second half."
