Ward: Tough to concede late goal

26 February 2011 20:30
Stockport boss Peter Ward was distraught after his side conceded a late goal and slipped to the bottom of the npower League Two table following their 3-2 loss to Bradford. Paul Turnbull and Ryan Doble had put the Hatters 2-1 in front, but Adam Griffin was dismissed for deliberate handball in the 33rd-minute. Although James Hanson missed the resulting penalty, Doble was sent off for elbowing Luke Oliver in the 65th-minute and Bradford made their extra men count with Steve Williams adding to an earlier strike before Gareth Evans scored an injury-time winner. Ward said: "It's tough after playing so well to concede a goal after 95 and a half minutes and lose the match. "I have nothing but praise for the lads. They gave everything they had for the shirt. Every game is important for us now. "It was an excellent performance and although were beaten the players haven't given up. As long as they have that fight in them we have a chance."
