Stockport insist they will consider any offer of potential investment with the best interests of the club at heart. County's Football League status is under threat as they lie second-bottom of npower League Two with only 15 matches remaining. New York businessman Mike Newton has been linked with a takeover bid of the club but Stockport are remaining tight-lipped. The club said in a statement: "Further to recent claims in the media that the club are in takeover talks, the board of directors of Stockport County advise that Stockport County FC, like other Football League clubs, are on occasions approached by potential investors. "If the club were to receive a serious written offer of investment, the offer would be reviewed and if it was considered to be in the best interests of Stockport County FC, the offer would be put forward to the directors and shareholders of the club for consideration and scrutiny. "If the directors and shareholders decide to progress the offer, they would open negotiations with the potential investor with appropriate due diligence and confidentiality."
