Stockport 2-1 Southend: Match Report

26 March 2011 15:19
Late Rowe show earns County crucial win Danny Rowe scored a last-gasp winner as Stockport beat Southend 2-1 to boost their survival hopes. The Hatters pressed throughout the first half, creating a number of chances, the best of which fell to Rowe, who was also responsible for the breakthrough on 28 minutes when his jinking run in the penalty area forced Sean Clohessy into a trip, Greg Tansey making no mistake from the spot. The Shrimpers only opportunity in an abject first-half performance was a long-range free kick from Ryan Hall, but the introduction of Teddy Nesbitt at half-time saw the visitors spring into life and Hall, Louie Soares and Nesbitt all went close in the first 10 minutes of the second half. County looked to have weathered the storm and should have increased their lead on a number of occasions, but Southend equalised with 10 minutes to go when Kyle Asante swept the ball home after good work by Harry Crawford. Rowe provided the late drama when he turned home Anthony Elding's flick-on.
