Stockport boss Paul Simpson has been backed to steer the club to npower League Two safety. County are currently one point above the relegation zone and face a tough run over Christmas with games against Cheltenham, Rotherham, Barnet and Chesterfield. But a club statement said: "The board of directors and Paul Simpson met up on Monday to discuss, amongst other things, the board's support regarding the funding of the first team squad, the current league position, the possibility of incoming players in the New Year and how the football club moves forward for the rest of the season. "We realise that the club's current position in the table is far from ideal and, having provided funding to bring players in, we are expecting performances and results to improve in the near future. "Any further failings will affect the future stability and forward planning of Stockport County as a Football League club. "That said, the club chairman, Alwin Thompson, took the opportunity to reaffirm that Paul Simpson has the full support of the board."
