Mike Newton has opted not to invest in Stockport after making a formal approach. Newton, a former board member at Oldham, failed in a bid to buy Port Vale last year and will not be putting any cash into County. A club statement read: "An official response was provided to him together with the information he requested, and informal talks were held. "However after due consideration and discussion he has decided not to pursue his interest any further at this time." Stockport are bottom of the Football League, five points adrift of safety and having played more games than any of their rivals.
